Service Description

Traditional Yoga classes incorporate physical postures, movement, breathing practices, concentration techniques, Sanskrit mantra, and meditation. While Hatha Yoga is the primary style, each class may draw from different traditional approaches depending on the season, lunar and Indian calendars, and the needs of the practitioners. You can expect a thoughtful practice that warms the body, focuses the mind, builds strength and mobility, and supports a sustainable lifelong practice. Classes may range from gentle and therapeutic to moderately or more physically challenging, and practices are adapted for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Unlike yoga designed primarily as exercise, Traditional Yoga has a deeper intention: to prepare the body and mind for meditation. What a class may include: • Joint movements, warm-ups, and therapeutic practices • Hatha Yoga postures and movement sequences • Pranayama (breathing practices) • Mudras and concentration techniques • Sanskrit mantra and chanting • Relaxation, meditation, and closing practices • Yoga therapy and practices addressing specific areas of the body • Seasonal and traditional practices Classes are intentionally varied, dynamic, and may include: • Warrior & Balancing • Back Opening • Hips & Thighs • Forward Folds & Twists • Inversions & Shoulder Opening • Joint Mobility • Vinyasa • Sivananda • Ashtanga • Yin • Yoga Therapy • and more. About Sanskrit Chanting: Sanskrit chanting is a traditional part of the practice and is included to honor the roots of Yoga, create a focused environment, and support concentration and meditation. No particular religion or belief system is required. All faiths and backgrounds are welcome. Chanting is not about conversion or worship; it is a practice of sound, vibration, concentration, and connection. Questions are always welcome. For the best experience: Arrive hydrated and with an empty or light stomach. When possible, shower or rinse before practice, and allow yourself time to settle in before class. Consistent practice is the key to experiencing the benefits of Yoga over time. New to Traditional Yoga? You are welcome. Practices are adaptable, and instruction is provided throughout class.
